GAINESVILLE, Fla.. – The indie, psychedelic rock band Morningbell will perform at the Bo Diddley Community Plaza on Friday, July 22 as a part of the Let’s Go Downtown “Free Fridays” concert series. The Gainesville-based band is well-established across Florida and annually tours the east coast. Their melodic sounds, similar to that of Pink Floyd, won them the chance to play at Bonnaroo 2008, named “best festival” by Rolling Stone magazine. Morningbell shared the stage with Bela Fleck, Broken Social Scene and Solomon Burke at the acclaimed festival. The band has also performed with Starlight Mints, Robert Sledge from Ben Folds Five, Man Man and Holopaw on separate occasions. They were also featured in MTV’s “Real World: Sydney,” Blender magazine, Pitchfork, The Washington Post, All Music Guide and Americana UK.
Brothers Travis Atria (lead vocals and guitar) and Eric Atria (bass guitar and backup vocals) formed Morningbell while living in Miami. The band moved to Gainesville in 2003. Current members also include Stacie Thrushman on keyboard and Chris Hillman on drums. Morningbell recently released its fourth album “Sincerely, Severely” in December 2009 and the EP “We are Angular and Beautiful” in 2010.
